Overview
Shareable Links let you collect payments without creating an invoice, providing your customers with more ways to pay. Customers enter their own amount and reference number when they pay — making them ideal for general-purpose payment collection on your website or in email templates.
This article covers how to create a Shareable Link, customize its branding, share it with customers, and add it to your website so customers can pay you online.
How it works
- You create a Shareable QuickPay Link
- Add the link to your website, email template, or anywhere customers will see it
- Customer clicks the link and connects their bank account via Plaid
- When they submit payment:
- A QuickPay record is created in Pocketbook
- The status is set to Pending
-
The payment appears in your Transaction and Invoice tables (marked as QP for Quick Pay, vs. INV for standard invoices)
- Both you and your customer receive a payment confirmation
Creating a Shareable Link
- Select Invoice Settings at the top right of the invoices page
- Click Create New under the Quick Pay Shareable Link
- Optionally, configure your branding:
- Upload your logo (appears top-left on the payment page)
- Enter your brand's primary and secondary colors using their hex codes or color picker
- Copy the URL and add it where customers will see it
If you need to create a new link, return to your invoice settings and select 'Create new' in the same place you created your first link. This will expire your previous link.
Adding your Shareable Link to your website
Once you have your Shareable Link, you can add it to your website so customers can pay you directly online. Most website platforms let you add a button or link without any coding.
Where to place it
The more visible your payment link is, the easier it is for customers to find it. Consider adding it to:
- Your home page — a prominent "Pay Now" button above the fold or in the navigation bar works well
- A dedicated "Make a Payment" page or pop-up modal — link to this page from your navigation menu so customers can always find it
- Your Contact page — customers who visit to get in touch may also want to pay
- Your footer — appears on every page, giving customers a consistent place to find the link
- Your email signature or template — great for ongoing customer relationships or if your customers are already familiar with your email template
What to call your button or link
Choose a label that's clear and action-oriented. Some options that work well:
- Pay Now
- Pay Online
- Make a Payment
- Pay Your Invoice
- Submit Payment
How to add it to your website
The exact steps will depend on which website platform you use, but the general process is the same:
- Log in to your website design platform
- Navigate to the page or section where you want to add the link
- Add a button or text link element
- Set the button label (e.g., "Pay Now")
- Paste your Shareable Link as the destination URL
- Save and publish your changes
If you're unsure how to do this on your specific platform, search for "how to add a button link" on your website provider's help center, or contact your website manager — most have step-by-step guides.
How Customers Pay
- Customer clicks your Link
- They enter:
- Reference number (invoice #, order #, job #)
- Total amount
- Name and contact information
- They click Connect Bank Account and link their bank via Plaid
- They submit payment, and both parties receive confirmation
Note: Shareable Links have a $20 dollar minimum payment amount
FAQ
What if my customer inputs a different address than the one I have on file?
If the email matches a contact in Pocketbook, their address will be updated to what they enter. If they use a new email, a new contact will be created.
How do I know when a Shareable Link is used?
You'll receive a confirmation email, and a Quick Pay record will appear in Pending status in your Invoices table.
Do Shareable Links use the same payment system as regular invoices?
Yes. Shareable Links use the same payment processing, including Plaid for bank connections, and the same settlement timeline.
Can I create more than one Shareable Link?
No, at least not concurrently. If you need to create a new one, go to your invoice settings and select 'Create new' to generate an additional link. Keep in mind that this will expire your previous link.
