How Business Names Work When Creating Contacts
In Stella Pay, every contact you create is associated with a business name—even if they aren't part of a company. This association helps keep your contacts organized and makes it easier to manage your interactions. Here's how business names are assigned in different scenarios when creating a new contact.
Scenario 1: Creating a Contact with a Public Email Address (e.g., Gmail)
A. Business Name Not Filled Out
- What Happens: If you enter a public email address like Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook and leave the Business Name field empty, Stella Pay will automatically set the business name to the contact's First Name and Last Name.
- Example: You add a contact with the email jane.doe@gmail.com without entering a business name. The business name will automatically become Jane Doe.
B. Business Name Filled Out
- What Happens: If you provide a business name while using a public email address, Stella Pay will use the business name you entered.
- Example: You add jane.doe@gmail.com and fill in the business name as Doe Designs. The contact's business name will be Doe Designs.
Scenario 2: Creating a Contact with a New Business Email Address in Your Account
- Requirement: A business name is required before you can create the contact.
- What Happens: Since the email domain isn't associated with any business in your account, you must manually enter the business name to create the contact.
- Example: You enter the email john@newstartup.com. Before saving the contact, you must fill in the business name, such as New Startup Inc.
Scenario 3: Creating a Contact with a Business Email Address Already Associated with a Business in Your Account
- What Happens: If the email domain matches a business already in your account, Stella Pay will automatically associate the new contact with that business.
- Example: You've previously added Tech Solutions with the domain @techsolutions.com. When you add a new contact with the email mary@techsolutions.com, the business name will automatically be set to Tech Solutions.
Tips for Managing Business Names
- Double-Check Before Saving: Always review the business name for accuracy before creating the contact.
- Business names cannot currently be changed once they are associated with a business email.
